A joint venture company between ESB and Vodafone, SIRO uses the existing electricity network in Ireland to provide 100% fibre broadband directly into a home or business, enabling speeds of 1 gigabit per second.
While SIRO builds and manages the fibre-to-the-building network, open access will be offered to all authorised broadband providers in Ireland including: Vodafone, Digiweb, Sky, Westnet Broadband, Carnsore Broadband, Rocket Broadband, Kerry Broadband, Airwire, Viatel and Pure Telecom.
This means that consumers and businesses can sign-up to SIRO through their local service provider.

In 2014, SIRO identified a need for an Integrated GIS System to facilitate the speedy rollout of their fibre-to-the-building network and the project planning sessions with IMGS commenced.

After starting the project, it was clear the Eligibility Database required address data to help manage homes passed and planned files. On review it was agreed that a GIS System would be the preferred choice to maintain this address data and that a master address database was needed.Timelines were very tight on this project and to expedite delivery, it was agreed that IMGS would implement an off the shelf version of the Intergraph Fibre Optic Works. The main benefit of this solution was that it provided an existing interface to the Cramer System, which SIRO were implementing.
IMGS delivered the Fibre Optic Works off the shelf solution along with the Master Address Database, exactly 6 months from start date. This cut the original project delivery date by half, which was a significant achievement.
The FOW solution is fundamental to the running of the telecommunications network in SIRO, and facilitates the network expansion of approximately 10,000 homes per month.
